Post Falls School District July Board Meeting

On July 14th, I attended the Post Falls School District Board of Trustees meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting they recognized a bus driver for winning the school bus rodeo. (I had to look up what that was.)

Chairman Uhrig went over the new law on public comment. The board decided to have a public comment time for items on the agenda and a separate public comment time for items not on the agenda. He also went over the new consent agenda law and asked if any board member had an item they wanted to take out of the agenda.

Board members reports: Creighton had nothing to report. Wagner gave a report on resignation letters from teachers. Rodriguez gave a report on fall sports.

Superintendent Naccarato spoke about Mullan Trail Elementary enrollment. It is below 300 at the moment. Concerned as to if it is feasible to keep it open in the long run. Creighton asked if this was a trend being seen elsewhere, Naccarato said no. She is confident it will open in September above 300. Naccarato reported that 16.9% of the parents in the school district voted in May, while 67.8% of the staff voted in May.

The Assistant Superintendent report on state test results. I couldn't quit hear her. I think she was saying the test scores were good.

The district's CFO reported that the new financial year started July 1st. He said that the district has new insurance, that they are no longer with ICRMP. They are using three different companies to cover what they used to have. This has resulted in money being saved.

Pizza for the district will be provided by Dominoes. Graduation requirements have been updated to math changes made at the state level. Bereavement leave for staff has been updated per contract negotiations.

Uhrig mentioned that a new policy is bing worked on regarding the new law on flags and banners in classrooms. Trustee Wagner seemed to imply that this was a silly law. The superintendent seemed to agree. He then mentioned a new policy on visitors to schools. It will outline who can trespass someone from school grounds.

Superintendent Naccarto announced that she will be retiring after this school year. The Assistant Superintendent will fill in for a bit once she retires so the board will not be rushed in their search for a new superintendent.

The meeting took about 30 minutes.
