Hayden City Council Special Budget Meeting - 8/26/25

I attended the 8/26/25, Hayden City Council Special Budget Meeting at 4 pm. I got there about 15 minutes into the meeting, which means I missed Councilman Depreist's presentation on his budget proposal. When I walked in the city manager said that she has been very prudent with taxpayer money.

Councilwoman White motioned to deny DePriest's budget proposal. Councilman Shafer seconded the motion. Shafer reminded DePriest that he has said for years that a 3% tax increase had to be taken each year, but now DePriest doesn't want to take it.(Gosh, maybe due to DePriest being up for reelection.) Mayor Davis asked clarifying questions of Shafer on what percentage of tax increase that he supported.

DePriest responded to Shafer's comments saying that his proposed cuts don't cut essential services. Is the sheriff an essential service? Councilman Roetter then asked a question of staff about the hiring or not hiring of a Lt. from the sheriff's department and how that would effect the budget. White's motion regarding DePriest's budget proposal gets voted down. There was then a motion and a vote to approve DePriest's budget proposal. Roetter and DePriest voted yes. White and Shafer voted no. Davis broke the tie by voting yes. This means that there was zero tax increase in the budget for fiscal year 2026.

Personnel A - Lakeland High School

The motion at the end of this meeting was to put personnel A on administrative leave for 10 days beginning Oct 15th and probation for a year. Is this in regards to the teacher at Lakeland High School?
